The Young Leaders League initiative of ILF-Ghana successfully hosted its annual Youth Mentors Training (YMT) from 19th to 22nd November 2024. The 4-day training, hosted at the ILF Global Office in East Legon, Accra, brought together 15 passionate youth mentors committed to guiding, inspiring, and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Day 1: Understanding Mental Health in Millennials and Gen Zs
The training began with an in-depth exploration of the mental health challenges and opportunities faced by Millennials and Gen Zs. Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions and gained insights into how mentors can provide effective support, build resilience, and foster mental well-being among the youth.

Day 2: Building Foundations for Leadership
The second day focused on equipping mentors with the skills and mindset to guide and inspire young minds effectively. Participants shared a collective vision to build a brighter future for Ghana’s youth while laying the groundwork for impactful mentorship.

Day 3: Enhancing Mentorship Skills
On the third day, the spotlight shifted to enhancing mentorship skills. From mastering techniques to connect with Gen Z to honing critical leadership abilities, the mentors embraced the challenge of becoming influential role models. The day also included opportunities to network and exchange ideas, further strengthening the sense of community among participants.

Day 4: Closing with Inspiration and Vision
The final day was both reflective and forward-looking. Sessions included exploring the power of vision boards for goal setting, a journey through Ghana’s rich history and its impact on the youth, and practical workshops on teaching LADS materials to young learners. The training concluded on an inspiring note, with participants feeling empowered and ready to embark on their mentorship journey.

The training featured experienced facilitators who have worked with young people from diverse backgrounds. Among the distinguished facilitators were Dr. Laura Mautsa, African Director of the Y2L Initiative, Mr. Stephen Adu-Amoani, the Executive Director of ILF Africa, and the Caribbean and Mr. Jonas Selby, Y2L Ghana Director/Africa Transformation Projects coordinator.
Their invaluable insights and expertise enriched the sessions, leaving participants equipped with practical tools and inspiration to make a significant impact in their mentorship roles.

The 4-day event was a resounding success, filled with learning, growth, and inspiration. The Young Leaders League continues to stand as a pillar for empowering young mentors to shape the future. With the knowledge and skills gained from this training, the participants are set to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
